I created this for the Restoring Truthiness rally that originally began as a passing by idea on Reddit. The slogan is “Stay Truthy, America!” in red, white, and blue. The American flag is laid softly over the letters with the Lincoln Memorial chilling in the background. Stephen Colbert introduced the word truthiness to us, now we can carry out goodness in its name.

Dear Debi,

Please don’t be offended by this note. I’m just trying to steer you right and nip this thing in the bud. Certain groups here a flickr tend to draw alot of people who think they know what they are doing. It really is a downer to those that enjoy good photography.

By stating that you have too many hobbies, you have admitted that your fauxtography is not that good. You are correct! I don’t know what other hobbies you have, but I would suggest you stick with them for now.

It seems as though you may think your fauxtos are artsy and cute. They may be to you, but let me tell you, they are NOT. Maybe a basic art class and a bit on photography would help you be the real deal.

There are many idiots, like you, who pick up a digital cam and think they are really doing something. They are NOT. They’re just snapping away and then going home to wade through the mass files only to find a few keepers. It’s really a sad game to play.

How hypocritical! That’s how photography works. If this is not how real photographers function, then how one can  just capture the very best shot with every click? Do tell…

Many of these idiots take the shots they think are cute and dump them in a group pool on flickr. While it’s not against the rules, it’s really not the right thing to do. Think about it. People belong to or view a group and it’s pool to enjoy photos of that groups subject matter. They see some very nice photos taken by people who have an eye for art and have the technical side of photography shining bright in those images.

Exactly, its not against the rules. If you don’t agree with a particular group’s rules, then leave it. Or ignore the photos you don’t care for.

Then they stumble across the stinking pile of turds(fauxtos) that you have dumped in that group’s pool. Just because you wanted to. It’s not against the rules, but it should be. You are not the first, and won’t be the last, that is guilty of pooping in group pools.

Please take this advice seriously. Until you get an eye for art, just refrain from posting in a group pool. Leave that to the adept. Enjoy real photography and learn from it. Then share your work with others. For now, keep the fauxtography behing closed door’s or at cutesy sites like facebook or myspace.

How do you “share your work with others” without posting to the groups pools, which is really the only place where your photos may actually be seen. If a certain group, for instance, is about dumping in any of your photos, would that be OK? Real photographers (however you would classify that) have their own sites and don’t use Flickr as a serious way to get their work seen. It’s just as a way to network. Facebook and MySpace have restrictions and guidelines on photos uploaded there. So, as a photographer, one should know better than to tell people to utilize those sites for artwork.

The title of the “movie”, Citizen Of The Planet, is an Alanis Morissette song (from the album Flavors Of Entanglement) that fit in with the image. That’s all, really. I used it because the woman in the photo reminds me of Alanis. And, for the record, I’m aware that there is nothing ironic going on here.

This logo takes the cake. It was designed in 1973 for the Catholic Church’s Archdiocesan Youth Commission. It actually won an award from the Art Directors Club of Los Angeles, and later an AIGA award in 1975. I give it the award for the most accidentally inappropriate logo ever designed.

I wanted to do a simple selective color task: make myself stand out amongst the other children. Once I was finished, I attempted to upload to Flickr, where I  kept getting an error. Hence, “Yes problem!”
